Here are some shots from the Subliminal Projects show titled: Pattern_recognition.
A pattern is a type of theme consisting of recurring events or objects that repeat in a predictable manner. Each artist's work in this show is a direct example of visual pattern, whether they be simple and decorative, such as stripes, zigzags, and polka-dots, or more complicated patterns, which may be found anywhere in nature or in art, they can be directly observed with any of our five sense. Shapes, sounds, tastes, smells, and textures all go into the creation of higher order structures which are vital to our growth and adaptation to the environment.
There is more to pattern than just the literal aspect, however. The observation of rituals, habits, coping mechanisms, and our reactions to things, events and people, are based on data that we've accrued and will therefore lead to the ability to recognize a given sub pattern within a much larger pattern. Through the artist's observation, "Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience, and the aesthetic enjoyment is recognition of the pattern." Pattern recognition is also the ability to see order in a chaotic environment; the primary condition for life... particularly the idea that even in chaos, there are recognizable patterns.
